Holiday Houses

Holiday houses are all about relaxation, recreation, and reinvigoration. Today, an increasing number of people are opting for interestingly-built, cozy holiday homes, which act as a retreat of sorts.

The beach holiday home

When one says holiday, a cozy house by the beach is the first thing that pops into the mind. In a beach house, the view is everything, so most contemporary beach homes are built upside down – the master bedroom, the living and the dining areas are being built on the topmost level to get the view. Sloping wooden roofs, small cozy decks and patios, and colourful wooden shutters are characteristic of old-world beach homes. Today, people are falling in love with the architecture of modern beach homes, which usually have clean lines, are made entirely of wood, steel and glass, and have straight roofs and huge glass windows illuminating everything on the inside – a modern tribute overlooking the mighty ocean. The outdoors are given importance in beach holiday houses, complete with elevated patio and sun decks, an overflowing swimming pool and hot tub, and ample place for seating for the guests to enjoy the view.

The rustic country holiday home

Country holiday homes are all about contrasts – luxury meeting tradition, dynamic colours meeting earthy hues and nature meeting technology. Traditional country homes are built primarily of wood and stone, complete with vaulted ceilings, wooden shutters, formal dining areas, arches, pillars and columns, and a picture-perfect small garden with huge trees overshadowing the house. Today, country holiday homes are undergoing radical changes due to living preferences. Modern country homes are usually built of brick, have flat roofs, two levels with most of the living areas on the first floors, and a swimming pool with a lounge area. Newer architectural designs for country holiday homes are displaying structurally different living styles, with the house split in three distinct zones in the shape of the letter “T” with huge glass windows overlooking a landscaped, contemporary lawn with an outdoor fire pit. Most architectural plans such feature the living, kitchen and guest rooms downstairs and the master bedroom upstairs.

The mountain holiday home

Traditional mountain homes make use of stone brick and wood, complete with wood and stone plaster, a brick stone fireplace, wooden kitchen and ceiling and stone bathrooms. Contemporary mountain holiday houses combine form and function with design, and are made of a variety of materials including concrete, stone and wood, depending upon the landscape. Various natural and engineered materials such as aluminium, glass tile, stainless steel, metal, fibre, stones and wood are usually used in mountain homes to create a feeling of snugness and beauty. Sloping vaulted and flat roofs, peaked roof lines, large floor-to-ceiling glass windows and skylights, along with an open floor plan with a living space, a mudroom, bedrooms and fireplaces are atypical of mountain holiday houses. Today, modern mountain homes also have converted exteriors, complete with swimming pools, patio seating and sun decks to enjoy the light warmth of the sunshine and the gorgeous view.
