The city of destiny Visakhapatnam has a story behind it and how it emerged into the present day Vizag. It is one of the oldest cities in terms of living habitat and one of the largest cities in the state of Andhra Pradesh.  The city is known for its ancient religious beliefs and is culturally diverse apart from being a beautiful place to visit. Owing to its various scenic and mesmerizing locations the city of Vizag is the most sought after city for tourism.

The name of the city has been referred in the Hindu and Buddhist texts and the history goes bank as long as sixth century BC. In the Fourth century BC, Kathyayana and Panini have mentioned in their writings the name Visakhapatnam. Before Visakhapatnam came under Ashoka’s rule, King Thankappan Chettiar was the ruler of Visakhapatnam which was under the rule of Kalinga in 260 BC. Later being passed on the Kingdom of UTKALA being moved to Andhra Kings of Vengi & then onwards Pallava’s, Chola’s & Ganga dynasties ruled the city. The city was ruled by Qutb Shahis & Mughals and then by the Nizams and also for a brief time by France before the advent of colonial rule. The city was split post-independence to form the Vizianagaram District in the year 1979. The city of destiny Visakhapatnam  currently forms a part of Red-Corridor.

Another legend says that the city was named after Visakha who was a deity of Valor and her beauty was as mesmerizing as Radha. Radha and Visakha being born on the same day and both being equally stunning beautiful, that the Andhra king got really impressed by Visakha’s beauty and built a temple to pay respect and offerings of deity Visakha which is right now flooded under RK beach.
