Creating the perfect art house wherein one can showcase each one of the treasures that one has collected can be quite a task. However, with a little bit of ingenuity, thought and imagination, art lovers can find that there are many foolproof ways to create compelling displays of their treasured collectibles and surround themselves with it rather than them gathering dust in the closet.

Experimenting with color

Creating a wall filled with diverse frames, mediums and pieces of art is possible by a shared, single wall color which will make the art stand out. The contrast is a good technique to highlight the artwork. If your house has white or cream-colored pristine walls, then they will serve as an excellent backdrop for a stunning contemporary or abstract painting. A very thin, simple frame not only accentuates the exuberant piece but also leaves it looking prim and neat against the cream or white walls.

Collective traits

When similar objects or objects with shared characteristics are grouped together as artwork, it lends certain cohesion to the arrangement. For example, gourd shaped or veiled stone pottery, lamps, vases, paintings, showpieces and other objects come together in an eccentric collection that serve as a great single piece of artwork.

Art ledges and collages

Great photographs displayed tastefully make for some great memories. Matted and framed pictures look great on picture shelves. Apart from hosting the all-time-favorite black-and-white or sepia-toned photos, art and picture shelves can also hold framed postcards, vintage prints and a host of other treasures and collectibles.

Today, an art house is incomplete without the popular “picture wall”. If building a picture collage over a period is your idea of great artwork for the wall, then you could begin with a cluster of pictures in the center of the wall, gradually expanding over a period of time without having to start over, patch holes or take pieces down. Additionally, if yours is a two-storied home, then using the wall next to the stairs to create the wall of picture memories is a great idea and also enhances greatly the beauty of the stairwell area.

Embracing the odd

Odd numbers of objects are always more pleasing and interesting to the eye. You can apply the “rule of threes” in decorating art around the house. For example, wall art is more interesting when one hangs a diverse range of items such as platters, plates and collectibles in odd numbers. An asymmetrical arrangement looks casual as well as creative, and a symmetrical arrangement looks ordered and non-fussy. Homeowners can choose the approach depending upon their taste.

Cheeky best

Contemporary art is, more often than not, cheeky. If one does not want to showcase these in the living room where not all guests might appreciate it, displaying these collections in the bedroom above the bed is just the right amount of cheeky.

Apart from the above, hanging vintage objects and artifacts instead of arranging them also strengthens the visual appeal of an elegant and artistic art house.
