House Decoration

Using energy efficient lights in house decoration has become the norm today. Substituting inefficient and unproductive fixtures and light bulbs for newer energy-efficient models that not only lessen the load on the environment by cutting down on energy consumption but also allow people to save immensely on their energy bills. Installing energy efficient lights is probably one of the least expensive and easiest green measures one can undertake.

Traditional incandescent and fluorescent lamps and bulbs are gradually being phased out on store shelves and are being replaced by compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Advances in CFL bulbs and LED fixtures have more than one advantage – not only are they big on energy saving but they are versatile as well, allowing homeowners the choicest of dimmable, natural and warm lighting. In fact, using about ten 10 watt LED lights alone will result in a cost to savings ratio of about 1:5. What’s more, the newer and more flexible breed of CFLs and LED lights and bulbs can be fitted into a variety of light fixtures including wall sconces, pendants, chandeliers, floor lamps, and table lamps, not only making them more efficient but also resulting in beautiful house decoration objects. Summarized below are a number of fixtures which can be fitted with CFLs, LEDs and other energy efficient lights to create a better home –

Pot/can/recessed lighting

Usually small in size and used as recessed ceiling lighting, these light fixtures all have separate housings and are the perfect choice when it comes to beautiful general lighting sans any harsh light. These can also be used as under-cabinet lighting.

Wall Sconces

Available in all shapes, sizes and designs, wall sconces are excellent choices for general as well as mood lighting in the living room, bedroom, kitchen, and even the bathroom. Glass energy efficient, nickel LED ones in various shapes and designs, up and down wall lights, high chrome wall sconces and outdoor wall lights, all are energy efficient in themselves and can be fitted with energy efficient lights to beautify the room.

Table and floor lamps

Table and floor lamps focus on both function and form. Ceramic, wicker pyramid, modern design, Pixo, twisted glass, twin light, Dalton, seashell or coral shaped acrylic ones and even ivory and bronze table and floor lamps can be fitted with a minimum 10 watt LED bulb and can light up the spaces easily. They disperse the light in all directions, and save on energy as well as providing sufficient lighting for the room.

Pendants

Pendant lights make for a pretty picture and can be used in formal dining areas and even in the kitchen for task lighting. Paxton glass single, Claylight ones, star glass pendants, slim and larger foyer pendants, seagull pendants, inverted ones and even open pendant lamps, when fitted with energy-efficient lights, make for great showpieces in house decoration.

As seen above, today energy efficient lights can be fitted in almost any light fixture to not only save on energy but also enhance the ambience of the home.
