SSNCE college (Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering), popularly known as SSN College of Engineering, is located in Rajiv Gandhi Salai, in the city of Chennai. The college has famous roots and was instituted by the founder and chairman of HCL Technologies, Mr. Shiv Nadar, in the year 1997. While it was originally affiliated to Anna University, today it stands out as one of the leading centers for higher learning in the state.

The engineering college offers a host of graduate and post-graduate engineering course AICTE-approved options to its students. Graduate courses include specializations in the fields of electrical, electronics, communication, computer sciences, biomedical, mechanical, civil, chemical and IT engineering, all of which are 4-year courses. The college offers masters in engineering degree that has specializations such as computer sciences, system software, large-scale ICs, communication systems, applied electronics, and energy engineering, among others. The post-graduate courses are of two years each. The college also offers an MCA and an MBA degree to students. The engineering programs at SSN College of Engineering follow the syllabus of Anna University, thus being updated and revised periodically. The system is semester-based, and the teaching methodology is a healthy mix of classroom and guest lectures, practical sessions, projects, assignments, self-learning, periodical evaluation and feedback.

Today, centers of learning are constantly collaborating with foreign universities in a bid to exchange students, teachers, knowledge, ideas and research, and SSN College is no different. The college has signed an MOU with the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan for facilitating the exchange of students, course materials, staff members, and for research association. The Centre for Crystal Growth program at SSN College has also undertaken a collaborative project along with National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi on the “Growth and Characterization of Crystalline Materials”. This institutional support of research has resulted in a steadily growing harvest of research papers and several patents in the pipeline, with more to come in the future.

SSN College admits students to enroll into its programs strictly on the basis of merit only, as per the rules and regulations prescribed by the University and the Government. A certain section of the seats, which varies every year, are reserved for the Anna University single window system and the remaining seats are included in the management quota. After the Class XII results are announced, the college gives out applications for the latter seats and short-lists students on the basis of their marks. Thereafter, the college conducts a test and interview for their courses and selects candidates according to the merit, again. The MCA course includes the additional criteria of minimum TANCET scores.

SSN College of Engineering is located near Rajiv Gandhi Salai on the OMR Road, which is just 40 minutes drive from Shriram Shankari, upcoming gated community in the satellite township of Guduvanachery. The popularity of residential communities in Guduvanachery such as Shriram Shankari is prompting people to move to the outskirts of the city, making travelling for students to the popular engineering college even easier.
